Interviewing any of the staff at Kirkland Bicycles proved to be much more difficult than wefd imagined. The shop was packed. Granted it was early August, at which time the entire world tends to suffer from Tour de France fever. Regardless, after roughly fifteen false-starts to our interview process, we gave up and turned to Abigail Nichols, an apparent shop regular. Abigail was waiting in line to purchase a pair of Gin Optics riding sunglasses. She was kind enough to give us a brief breakdown, while she waited. gWell, Ifve been coming to this shop since it's inception in 1992 and, wellc I donft really know what to else to saych At which point we interrupted, gAbigail, say whatever you like. But, wefd REALLY dig it if youfd say it in the form of a haiku.h
She was happy to oblige.
"Totally cozy
Cutting edge technology
Always bring coffee"
When asked about the coffee bit in her poem, Abigail quietly mumbled something about greasy wheels & making people smile. "Honestly, I just really dig the shop. The guys are always friendly, sharp & open to talking shop with me. Even when I don't really know what I'm talking about. So, I always bring 'em coffee."
Upon hearing this, we looked down and noticed that true indeed, Abigail was carrying a Starbucks drink-carrier loaded with iced, espresso drinks.
